Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling By: Ross King
This was an absolutely fascinating read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It gave a wonderful insight into the relationship between Pio Julius and Michelangelo regarding the Sistine Chapel. As well as other works that the pope commissioned from Michelangelo. It also focused a lot on Michelangelo's character, work ethic, personality. Also his relationships with other artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael in particular. Then there was the actual work on the Sistine Chapel which the author did a wonderful job breaking down artwork by artwork to give a wonderful historic perspective on each painted scene.
I am looking forward to re-reading this side by side with pictures of the various artworks mentioned to help me understand the works in more detail. If you are interested in Art History particularly Michelangelo and the Renaissance era. This is a book you are definitely going to want to read and add to your collection.
